In 2004, I bought Jimmy Buffett’s book “A Pirate Looks At 50.” You may recall it making an appearance here on my blog in 2006. It was a book about growing old and remembering your younger glory days. I never finished it, because I don’t have much time to read.
Interestingly, it’s 20 years later, and I’m turning 50 today. Being 50 feels old.
Approaching 50, I started trying to get healthier again over the past year, though I didn’t make a big public deal out of it like 10 years ago (see Jesse 39.9). I’m pleased to announce that I’m down 25 pounds from my high in 2019, with 10 of those being in the last year. I’m not going to lie. Jardiance helped. But it’s not enough, I need to do more.
20 years ago, I was taking a pill for allergies. Now, I take… 13? Or so, including vitamins. For various maladies. I struggle to keep them in one of those big pill organizers.
But, I still get out, I still walk and bike, I’m still perpetually cleaning up the garage (we don’t have a basement). I’m a long way from retirement although I sure would like to. Not so I could travel the world, just so I could sit and do what I want all day.
Unfortunately, I didn’t contribute to my own retirement account until I got out of debt in the late 2010’s, so I need to keep working for a while yet.
