It’s time for the Fall TV Season this year, but this time around it won’t be as much fun for me. If there was one thing my ex-wife and I enjoyed doing, it was crashing in our easy chairs and watching TV.

But this year I’ll be dropping some shows which we watched together, and which now bring back painful memories of our happy marriage. One that I couldn’t force myself to get rid of was “Psych” starring James Roday. Our entire family enjoyed watching that show, so much so that I sent off for an autograph. And now James mocks me from his autographed picture on my wall: “To Jesse: Best to the Family.“

Surely he would be disappointed that our family is now broken up. I miss my wife’s funny remarks and her daughter’s giggles during that show — and others, many of which we had watched through their entire series runs. I’m sure as each new season comes on this fall, I will wish she was sitting next to me enjoying the entertainment.

It was our escape from reality, our one solace in this difficult world. Fall prime time season we’d have 25 hours a week of shows sometimes — so many shows that I used to crank up 3 VCRs. Early in our relationship, I used to come over to her trailer every Wednesday night. She would cook dinner and we would watch TV while her daughter was at Sunday School. All of this just reminds me how precious the little things in life can be.

Gone now too are shows that I watched mostly because she wanted to – no more cop shows, the “CW” is out — you get the idea. There isn’t a lot new on this Fall that’s good — many shows I watched such as 24, Lost and Prison Break are now over.
