Diet is just "Die" with a "t" on the end

This is actually a Garfield quote. I read a lot of Garfield when I was a kid.

Garfield: Diet is just "Die" with a "T"

To say it another way, one of my favorite scenes from “The Simpsons” comes from the Season 8 episode “The Springfield Files.”* The transcript from SNPP.com (one of the oldest Simpson fan sites!) reads like this: “Terrified, Homer starts to aimlessly run. He kneels before a billboard that says “DIE.” Homer shreaks. The wind blows away the tree that covered the last letter. Nonetheless, a “DIET” sign still scares Homer witless. Homer runs into the woods…

Last night, I recorded my heaviest weight on record: 250.7 pounds. Homer simpson is said to have weighed in-between 239 and 261 (except for the time he gained weight to claim disability at 315) pounds. Because his weight fluctuates through the series, Reddit puts it at an even 250 for calculating purposes. Upon the realization that I now weight more than Homer Simpson, I think it’s time to make some changes. I’m not healthy at this weight — even though I don’t have high blood pressure or diabetes YET, I’m probably a cheeseburger away. I’ve outgrown most of my Hawaiian shirts, and also come up against a maximum size, beyond which clothes are hard to get (I don’t like shirts to be skin tight so I’m currently up to a 3X Hawaiian, or a 4X tshirt. Here’s what my weight has been looking like since I’ve been tracking on an Aria Electronic Scale:

Weight Graph 2016

Clearly, the scale isn’t working. During my last weight loss challenge, I lost about 20 pounds in 6 months — but when I started that I was 20 pounds less than I am now. Therefore I am creating a new diet plan, called #250. The idea is to get as far away from 250 pounds as I can. The short term goal is to drop 20 pounds, which I hope to do before my birthday. After that, there’s another 20 to lose by the end of the year. How will I strive for this goal? As with “Jesse 39.9” it will help to have a wifi scale and my Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch / Galaxy 5 phone to track my progress. The Samsung Health software tracks Calories and Steps. The initial caloric intake Samsung Health recommended was 2500 calories, but I’ve already been tracking my calories on and off, and I believe that’s way too high. In order to really make some progress here, I’m setting my goals as follows: – 1000 Calories per day. This is doable if I have a salad and fruit/yogurt for lunch and a reasonable dinner with no dessert. – 5000 Steps per day.
