[WEB] J's X-Files Home Page (1995)

J

I’ve watched “The X-Files” since the very first episode. I’m a huge fan. The television show started in 1993, just as the nascent Internet was getting going. While I was a senior at the University of North Carolina-Asheville in 1995, I started my first website, and “The X-Files” went along for a ride.

After finding the original HTML files in my archives recently, I have resurrected my website, in all its original cheesy 1990s web glory. Check it out: http://www.jesseferrell.com/oldsite/x

For the next few years, I was one of perhaps a dozen fansites for the TV program. I created original graphics by using Ray Tracing programs to create 3D versions of the logo. I carried news and rumors about the show, and was the only source of magazine covers and audio files. The home page had been viewed over 80,000 times by 1999, when 20th Century Fox threatened my Internet Service Provider and I was forced to shut it down.

I had created the page originally in March 1995, before I graduated from UNC-Asheville. As I moved on with life, the website changed URLs. Originally, it was on my university website. Then, when I got a job as a web designer in Raleigh, NC with a company called “Webpress” (under Interpath, Capitol Broadcasting’s fledgling Internet Service Provider arm), and when I moved my website to my first commercial hosting plan at Simplenet.com (who were later bought by Yahoo). When I moved from Simplenet.com to Pair.com hosting services, it ended up at my new domain, WeatherWatchers.Org.
