I am pleased to announce that my weather station on the CWOP weather network in State College, PA (C6777, “The Landings”) has (finally, after 10 years) been upgraded to fix a number of issues with accuracy and reliability.
Here are the details about this most recent upgrade:
- Davis Vantage Pro 2012 replaced with Davis Vantage Pro 2 2022
- Temp/Rain sensor moved 10 meters NW, out of shade & encroaching bushes,
- Temp/Rain sensor moved to 2m height, had been 0.5-1.0m since ~2009 causing readings that were too cold
- Additional temp sensor will be installed at ground level for reference
- Anemometer moved from roof to pole (both ~10m height), had not been transmitting since ~2013
- Rain Gauge replaced with updated model included with DVP2
- had been getting clogged frequently since ~2009 due to birds and leaves, will be away from trees now, with new bird spikes, and much more convenient to observer/clean out
- Still transmitting every 5 minutes, still using WeatherLinkIP, as WeatherLink LIVEs have been out of stock for months due to the worldwide computer chip shortage
- This caused some anomalous data during install shown in yellow
I have maintained a Davis Vantage Pro weather station at my residence on the west side of town, since I moved in during Summer 2006. Around 2012, I replaced the original VP with a newer used VP and separated the anemometer to the roof. The roof ended up being too dangerous to replace the anemometer when the battery started failing every couple of months, so after 2013 it barely transmitted spuriously through the daylight hours. This time I mounted the anemometer on a pole on my porch.
